Niels Gade
(1817-1890)
The Danish composer Niels Gade
was a friend of Schumann and Mendelssohn. The latter had
a strong influence on his composition style. Gade too wrote a large
number of shorter piano pieces. From the series of "Aquarellen"
originates the "Barcarolle" op. 19 nr. 5. A short mood piece,
almost salonesque and impressionistic, it is closely related to the
"Gondellieder" of Mendelssohn.
